The University of Toronto has Initiated a major project for establishing a forum for electronic communications called the "Information Commons." This year the University has put in place 40,000 accounts for on and off campus conductivity with E-mail and netbrowser capabilities. As of December 1995 this system was running at 75% of capacity and expected to grow substantially over the next year. The next objective is to establish a network system to handle more spatially related data structures such as found in the map library which intends to develop network systems for access to mapping and geographically referenced data. The Library sees research Project 3 (e) of the EvNet letter of intent as critical to understanding how spatially related dated is understood and used.
