Areas of teaching and research: Educational Technology; Evaluation; Assessment; Work Organizations; Gender; Trade Unions; Public Policy.
Methodological experience and skills: quantitative statistical techniques; structured and semi-structured data collection; qualitative hypertext analyses using computer software packages; historical archival research.
SSHRCC research grants (3) since 1989 have been on the role of gender in national work and labour organizations, and on the management structure and corporate partnerships in the sale and franchising of the grocery retail and wholesale chain, Dominion Stores. A special aspect of the latter research is on technology and training in work organizations.
Network Management Experience: I have considerable experience constructing and managing educational research networks. I was the network leader of the Research Institute for Technology in Education (RITE), selected in 1994 as one of four finalists in a national NSERC/NCE competition. I subsequently negotiated the merger of this network with one other finalist, LINCS, and parts of four other networks to form the Technology Based Learning Network Canada (TBL.CA). Along with Brian Gaines, I acted as network leader of TBL.CA. I had primary responsibility for co- ordinating a team of 24 participants who wrote the application on the Internet, for integrating 120 partners and stakeholders, 178 researchers, and 53 projects, and the assembly of a $53 million partner and NCE budget.
