1. Critical Book Review and Presentation

Individual

Please sign up on LearnLink for one of the books with the book. icon. It is a first come, first serve basis since there must be an equitable allocation of book assignments. Please see the instructor if you experience difficulty and you will be assigned a book.

A five page critical review of an assigned book on an assigned topic from one of the seven topics of the course. Must not be on the topic of the research project for the group of which the student is a member.

Day of the in-class topic (between January 21 and March 18).Both hardcopy and LearnLink posting in topic folder.

2. Research Proposal

Group

A five page research proposal - topic, goal, skeletal outline of argument, bibliography, and main data sources.

Due on February 18th. Both hardcopy and LearnLink posting in topic folder.

3. Research Assistance

Individual

Five helpful suggestions posted on LearnLink to the Research Project Group on the basis of Book Review of same topic area.

Due on February 18th, or the date of the class presentation of the book review, whichever is later.

4. Research Project Presentation

Group

In-Class presentation

A combination of media (internet, video, audio) and creativity (skits) may be used in this formal presentation of the group research project.

5. Research Project

Group

Must demonstrate serious attempt to incorporate suggestions from book review; rejection of suggestions must be justfied in a separate section.

This is a substantial research project based on information gathered from traditional library sources and from the Internet.

On or before April 15. Both hardcopy and LearnLink posting in topic folder, or on a diskette as one or more htm and graphic files.

50%

A bonus of 10% is available for publishing the project on the Internet as a Web site.

6. LearnLink Participation

Individual

Credit will be given to 4 kinds of LL participation:
  1. private e-mail messages to other students and the instructor; these should take the form of a request for help and/or attempts to help other students by answering their questions (please do not delete copies of your own messages in your mailbox);
  2. public messages to group and other conference folders
  3. participation in formal and informal chats; please designate someone in the chat to save the chat and post to chat folder.
  4. Completion of on-line questionnaires
