Inquiry ISS3 Guideline # 7: INQUIRY NOTEBOOK

PRINCIPLE: The purpose of the inquiry notebook is to provide you with a central place to keep an ongoing record of all the activities, thoughts, notes and other records associated with your inquiry process. This is the place to store information that you come across, thoughts that you have as you are reading, lists of references and questions that come to you as your inquiry progresses.

GUIDELINES: We want you to develop and use an inquiry notebook that works for you. Therefore there is some flexibility in the format of your notebook. Hubbuch (1996:15-18) offers some good guidelines (for what she refers to as a Research Notebook). We encourage you to consider these pages as a starting point in developing your own system.

At the end of term, we will expect you to hand in a research notebook that reflects its use throughout the term and

1) demonstrates use of inquiry related skills

2) illustrates a progression of thought and questioning related to your topic

3) contains records of data sources and evidence of analyses of your various resources

DUE: Week 12, April 5th, 6:30 p.m.

FORMAT: This is your notebook. It can be handed in whatever form works for you and may be hand-written or typed

WEIGHTING: 10% of final grade
